Agree what moves, the cutover date and the totals that must match. Keep the original books available while ERPNext becomes the system for new work.

Start with your actual Tally data

Confirm TallyPrime or Tally.ERP 9, the release, companies, financial years and available exports. Current TallyPrime supports Excel, XML and JSON exports; availability and fields depend on the release and selected data.

  • Back up the company data before exporting.
  • Identify duplicate ledgers, missing item units, tax details and currencies.
  • Approve the cutover trial balance, outstanding bills and stock quantities and values.

Agree what moves

Source recordsERPNext preparation
Ledgers, customers and suppliersMap the chart of accounts and party records; review tax and currency settings.
Stock items, units and godownsMap items, units and warehouses; review batch or serial tracking where used.
Unpaid customer and supplier billsLoad approved opening invoices with dates, references and remaining amounts.
Opening stock and other balancesUse opening stock reconciliation and the appropriate opening entries; avoid counting balances twice.

Check before switching daily work

  • Run a trial import in a testing environment and resolve the differences.
  • Match account balances, customer and supplier ageing, and stock quantities and values to the approved source reports.
  • Test a purchase, sale, payment, return and the required finance reports.
  • Agree when source entries stop, run the final import and obtain finance approval.

Keep history accessible

Preserve Tally backups and an accessible archive of the original reports and vouchers. Agree the required retention and access with your finance team. Importing full historical voucher detail is separate work, assessed from sample exports and approved in the quote.

Migration and ongoing sync are different

A migration moves the agreed data at cutover. Continuing to exchange records between Tally and ERPNext requires a separately scoped connection: which system owns each record, when updates run and who resolves failures.
